Metros are coming

Get your Metro’s race legs on!

The NSW Junior Metropolitan & Country Track Championships are on at Lidcombe on Sunday 6 December. The event starts in the morning and will run most of the day. As such, our regular Sunday afternoon racing won’t be on.

Come and represent your club at the biggest junior track cycling event in NSW, at our home track. The event is hosted by our friends at LACC and is always a fun day!

We strongly recommend all junior ‘track bike’ riders compete in: Participation, U/9, U/11, U/13, U15, U/17. Metropolitan medals are up for grabs!

To race you’ll need to hold a current Cycling Australia race licence, or get a new ‘Race All Discipline’ licence from AusCycling. AusCycling is new the governing body for Road, Track, BMX and Mountain Bike. Licences cost $75 – $145 pa, depending on age group.

Not sure how this all works? We’re here to help. Let Gay, Stel, Tom, Blair or Sinclair know that you’re interested and we’ll get you underway.

Next steps:

  1. Join Neo via AusCycling (in need). Select Neo Cycling Club from the list of NSW clubs.
  2. Try and come to our Tues or Thurs night training to get some practice in.
  3. Ask Tom / Blair to set up your bike to meet the age-based ‘rollout’ requirements.
  4. Enter online here. Entries will open shortly.

Once again, we’ll help you through the steps!

Christmas Party 2019

Our club Christmas Party on 15 December was a fabulous afternoon of serious and not-so-serious racing. The smoke cleared (a little) and we wrapped up a successful year, in style.

We awarded our winners of the Term Cups, held our Xmas raffle, enjoyed a huge feast (thanks Julia and co) and raised $350 towards new equipment.

Always a highlight of year, we even had Santa in attendance doing a hot lap on his trusty cargo bike!

Thanks everyone for your support this year.

Have a great break with your families and we’ll be back at Lidcombe for a Sunday Funday on 12 January, sign on from 2.00pm.

Why Neo?

After 5 successful years as Junior Cyclist, we have decided to rebrand. We hope you like it!

Despite our longstanding, and continued focus on ‘junior development’ we realise that our Junior Cyclist brand has become too restrictive, when in fact our oldest ‘juniors’ will be adults shortly!

As such, we have evolved our club branding to ensure it remains relevant to our members, especially as they grow. Plus we also have an increasing number of adult members, mainly parents.

Neo (Greek, for new or young), embodies both our long-standing commitment to junior development, and our ‘new’ approach to how a cycling club can operate. Additionally, in pro-cycling speak, young, first-year professionals are called ‘neo-pros’.

Vision

To be one of Australia’s leading cycling clubs, with a sustained focus on junior development, by making cycling inclusive and accessible to all. Cycling is a lifelong gift, and we support our members to ride with confidence, socially or competitively, regardless of their age or grade.

A club to grow with

Many of you will have seen more adults racing over the past year, as we’ve encouraged parents to start competing.

We’ve done this for a number of reasons.

Firstly, we want to ensure that our oldest juniors have quality racing experiences each week, by mixing it with adults (even against over-the-hill ones..).

Secondly, although kids may not want to see their parents in lycra (!), we want our juniors to see that cycling is a lifelong gift that they can hopefully keep enjoying, in the club, competitively or socially, well into adulthood.

2020 NSW Junior Metro Track Champs

We had 12 juniors compete in the NSW Junior Metropolitan Championships at Lidcombe on Saturday 23 November 2019, with some fantastic results by our junior track stars on our home track.

With good representation from clubs across Sydney, racing was closely contested and lead to some thrilling finishes.

Riders competed in an Individual Time Trial, a Scratch Race and a series of Derby races. We concluded the day with five podium finishes, in the overall results, and a number of PBs.

Despite being contested so early in the track racing season, Metros provide a great racing opportunity for riders looking to compete in the NSW Junior Track Championships in Dubbo, on February 8 2020.

Well done everyone!
